Your Perfect Ceremony

Here are a few tips that can help you plan
Your Perfect Ceremony:

  • Select and book a wedding officiant who will work with you to create YOUR perfect ceremony! Also, think about the qualities you want in your celebrant; e.g., professional, engaging, creative, non-judgmental, experienced, flexible, resourceful, dependable, and likeable!
  • Decide what ceremony style you want: romantic, elegant, religious, non-traditional, casual, formal, or fun!
  • Select a venue that compliments the style of wedding you desire. The Indiana State Fair or the Taste of Chicago might not be the best choice for a traditional or elegant wedding!
  • Think about what cultural traditions or other rituals you would like to include in your ceremony such as the Unity Candle, Unity Sands, Jumping the Broom, Guest Vows of Love and Support, Presentation of Roses to the Parents, or Acknowledgement of Absent or Deceased Loved Ones.
  • If you are blending families, talk about who you would like to include in the ceremony; e.g., children and/or other members of your families.
  • Consider including meaningful ceremony elements that can honor special people who have passed away; or those who are unable to be with you on your special day.
  • If you are planning an outdoor wedding, have a back-up plan in case of inclement or uncomfortable weather conditions.
  • Who will have the Marriage License? Where is the sand for the Sand Ceremony? Who will have the broom for the Jump the Broom ritual? Who will instruct the florist on the placement of the flowers? Where are the Unity Candles and where is the lighter?  These are things you don't want to worry about on your wedding day!
